Since 2003, Glowz team members Lynn and Andy Hollerman of Lafayette, LA have been involved in competition BBQ. First, the Hollermans judged contests for the Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) and Memphis BBQ Network (MBN). They branched into officiating as Head Judges for the International BBQ Cookers Association (IBCA) from 2007-2014 and as coordinators for the IBCA Louisiana Pit (chapter) from 2009-2014. The Hollermans are also founding members and Certified Contest Officials for the Barbecue Competitors Alliance (BCA). Starting in 2009, the Hollermans began cooking in BBQ contests under the name of Glowz BBQ. In 2017, the Hollermans also started officiating and cooking in steak and other related meat contests in the Southeast United States. In 2021, the Hollermans started participating in contests sanctioned by the Florida BBQ Association (FBA). In spite of their busy schedules, the Hollermans participate in more than twenty barbecue contests each year. In spite of everything, the goal of Glowz BBQ is to have a good time cooking championship BBQ.

Why Glowz BBQ? This name was chosen to honor the topic of Dr. Andy's physics research. Since the early 1990's Dr. Hollerman has been working to investigate the physical properties of luminescent materials. These materials glow in the dark when excited. Making things glow in the dark, either in physics research, patenting non-burning tracer ammunition, or cooking championship caliber BBQ has been a passion for many years!
